Parents-to-be Preview Northside Hotel, I mean Hospital August 9th, 2006

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to tour the location where schmoopiebeta (aka K4) is most likely to be born, Northside Hospital.  We were glad to find out an answer we had been waiting on for a long time: while WiFi access is not available in the delivery room, it IS available in the lobby, atrium and certain spots on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors:)

Northside has a lot to offer for parents-to-be, in addition to the comforts of technology. They go a long way to help all those involved feel comfortable.  The admissions desk feels much like a hotel check-in desk, and the waiting area features a Starbucks coffee shop along with the standard vending machines and ATM (so NewDad will be fully caffeinated).  Our tour led us through most of the areas we are likely to see when schmoopiebeta decides to make his fall debut: emergency parking area, lobby, check in desk (”be sure to bring your id and insurance card”), elevators, delivery room, nursery and post-delivery room. The sleeping area for dads seems a little spare - we may have to bring our own Aero Bed along with the NewMom suitcase. We also got a special treat while visiting the nursery; we witnessed an hour-old baby get his first bath. Wow, those nurses really sling those babies around with confidence. One day we’ll be that comfortable:)

We left looking forward to the big day.  Only 10.5 weeks to go. Maybe more, maybe less. Next up: childbirth preparation classes!
