Doctor: “Probably Boy” April 10th, 2006
In our second visit to the baby doctor today we were able to hear the pulse of schmoopiebeta once again. It took a little while for the doppler to find the heartbeat (Perhaps they should be using the supercali-fragilistic-expiali-doppler) but we were eventually able to hear the lovely sound of the heartbeat.
The doctor said it’s probably around 150 beats per minute. (Very close to what was measured in the first visits Ultrasound). Then she asked us if we were going to find out the sex of the child.Â
We unanimously said yes.
She then proceeded to advise what she was going to say next is not an exact science (not that we expect doctors to provide scientifically sound information, of course) but based on the heart beat rate – she says schmoopiebeta is likely a boy. She says boys generallly have a lower rate than girls. Girl heartrates generally are closer to 170.Â
The doctor also advised she has a 50% chance of being right.
Later in the day in telling the story to a co-worker, I learned of another way to tell the sex. If Mom-to-be craves meats – likely boy - or if she craves fruits and vegatables – likely girl. Ashley has not had many cravings as of yet, but has definitely seeked to eat more fruits and vegatables. So maybe schmoopiebeta will be a girl?
Any other ideas? Anyone willing to take a guess? Comments are welcome!
Before I wrap up this update, I should note the check-in desk on the left was the correct desk for us to use this time as it was our second visit, but this morning the desk on the left was closed and we had to use the desk on the right. Additionally – we only waited a few minutes before being called back to the second waiting room, where we waited another 15 minutes. Overall, a much more efficient visit than the first. :-)

ITS
A
BOY
KEEP THE NEWS ALERTS COMMING
I guess boy! But either sex is a blessing.
My little Benjamin had the lower heart rate. But contrary to the meat cravings, I couldn’t get enough fruit. Vegetables were a little harder to stomach, and meat actually nauseated me. So did toothpaste, which was frustrating as you can imagine.
“Any other ideas?” Okay maybe the non-scientific doctor (read faith healer?) didn’t tell you guys this, but “Boy” and “Girl” are really the only two choices here.
I think boy, though, personally.
The Kellys are ecstatic about your news. More later, as i am currently overwhelmed by my own (three) issue.
